ABILENE, TX - The Texas UIL announced that Abilene will once again play host to the State Championships for Six-Man Football. Shotwell Stadium will welcome back these talented athletes and their fans to declare the end of season state champs December 12, 2015 with games at noon and 3 pm.

AISD’s Athletic Department and the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau worked together in creating a successful package to entice the UIL to select Abilene for the Championships.

“We are thrilled to host these prestigious championships,” Phil Blue, Athletic Director for AISD said. “Abilene has a great central location that meets travel needs for all of these teams and a welcoming community that has such respect for smaller programs as we’ve proven over the last several years. Working together with Abilene CVB is a win for all.”

Abilene has had the privilege to host the Championships in years past: 2005, 2006 and 2009-2012.

“The 6-Man Championships bring tremendous value. Each time hosted, more than $120,000 in economic impact is generated into the Abilene economy,” Debi Schultz, Sales and Sports Director for the Abilene Convention and Visitor Bureau stated.

All other state championships will be held in Houston.
