The number of guest indicated on these boards is very deceiving. VB, the developers of the board say that you can estimate roughly 85-90% of guest are bots from sites such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. The bots crawl out amongst sites on the web gathering information and that information is indexed into what you know as search engines so when you search for a term, results appear.

Here is an example of some of the guests currently accessing the system here. crawl-66-249-64-55.googlebot.com
      crawl-66-249-64-142.googlebot.com
      msnbot-157-55-39-9.search.msn.com
      msnbot-199-30-24-136.search.msn.com

So when you see a high number of guests, you can bet your can of dog food that a high majority of those guests are bots. Oh, and the bots are able to view all the topics and responses so you will see many guests showing they are viewing a certain forum.

Also, unless sites like this authenticate your email address upon registration, spam bots are programed to bypass and create member names. This is why we implemented email authentication from the get go. Other sites may show a high membership total but in reality, many of those memberships were never memberships at all.

Back to your regular schedule of programming.
