NHSFT: Thursday Game of the Week

Each week I'll scan the nation (via calpreps) for the best Thursday game of the week.
This Thursday we have a Houston battle between Houston powers 6A Westfield and 6A Lamar.

After scanning the nation this should be the best game tomorrow night.
I'll try to provide some context why this game was chosen before kick-off.

Apparently Lamar is pretty stacked with athletes. Westfield always has their share of athletes, but the buzz is they have found a replacement for Ed Oliver. dada

Houston Westfield played 6A Runner Up Lake Travis better than anyone except Katy.....losing 28-21 2nd round.

Houston Lamar made it 3 rounds losing a heatbreaker to a solid Mansfield squad..

Westfield and Lamar haven't played since 2005 .
        Westfield won that one big.

          Info.....
Lamar vs Westfield Thursday Two of the top teams in the Houston area over the last 15 years meet head to head in a showdown. With 22 players back from last year’s team Lamar looked very sound in there scrimmage game verse Dekaney High school. Owen Holt (QB) is a pro-style qb with a lot of …

Lamar has a lot of returning starters on both sides of the ball from a good team.

Westfield looked good in their scrimmage with Katy and Alief Taylor.
I was especially impressed with their defensive front.

I'm guessing this won't be an offensive shootout. Should be a close one.

btw - Houston Lamar lost to a good Dickinson team in last years playoffs. Arlington Lamar lost to Mansfield.

It's astonishing though that a game of this magnitude this early in the season doesn't get a peep on the "other" National Forum.

They might not even be aware of it.
                    And, there's 6 or 7 die-hard Texans there.

Many don't see these two as statewide powers even though they are consistently good programs.
The strong matchups on Friday and Saturday could be why this one gets lost.
It should be competitive and either (or both) could make noise in the playoffs.

For those in the Houston viewing area, it's on Ch. 57.

That may be part of it, but somehow I don't think so in the big picture. l won't get into it. haha

Anyways, Lamar was recently in the 6A Title game, well 5A then.
Put up good fight vs Allen. I remember watching that one.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Quarterback Kyler Murray rushed for 143 yards and two long touchdowns and Marcus Ward scored the go-ahead touchdown to lift Allen past Houston Lamar 35-21 in the Class 5A Division I championship…

Good game into the 4th quarter.
I'm not sure how much the final had to do with Lamar picking it up or Westfield being gassed.
                                      Probably some of each.
