High school football: Top 25 rankings

Only one team exited (Foothill-Pleasanton) and one team (Kennedy-Richmond) entered The Chronicle’s top 25 football rankings this week. After numerous byes over the Labor Day weekend due to excessive heat and poor air quality, all but two of the 25 teams had games on Friday or Saturday. They went 19-4. Three of the losses were to other Top 25 teams, including No. 3 St. Francis which lost 31-7 to No. 1 De La Salle, and No. 4 Serra, which dropped a 35-28 home game to then-No. 6 Pittsburg. Serra and Pittsburg swapped spots this week. De La Salle and St. Francis retained their previous rankings. The biggest jump this week was made by previous No. 16 San Ramon Valley which moved up to No.
