Pittsburg controls Najee Harris in 61-35 win over Antioch

Besides that, the Pirates needed to make a case to be invited into the North Coast Section’s first Open Division playoff field.

All of it fueled fantastic performances from running back Montaz Thompson (26 carries, 235 yards, five touchdowns), quarterback Seu Kuka (361 total yards, four TDs) and a defense that held Harris to his lowest rushing total since 2014.

The Panthers (6-4, 3-2) had a big passing game from sophomore Willem Karnthong (20-of-34, 356 yards, two TDs, three interceptions), but much of the damage was after the game was decided.

While Antioch will advance to the Division I playoffs, Pittsburg, along with Monte Vista-Danville or Clayton Valley-Concord, hopes to join De La Salle-Concord and Freedom in the four-team Open Division playoff field that will be announced Sunday.

Leki Nunn, out much of the season with a neck injury, accounted for 355 yards and four scores as the host Padres (6-4, 6-1 West Catholic Athletic League) clinched a co-championship with Valley Christian and St. Francis.

Nunn completed 16 of 23 passes for 270 yards and three scores and rushed 16 times for 85 yards and another score as Serra recorded the most points and most lopsided victory against Bellarmine since the series began in 1946.

Bellarmine (6-4, 4-3) got field goals of 41 and 45 yards from Jack Geiger and an 80-yard touchdown pass from Ike Ogbogu (11-for-21, 168 yards) to Brendan Manigo.

In the 89th Little Big Game, host Burlingame (6-4) scored four touchdowns in the final 5:22 of the second quarter to claim its seventh straight win in the series.
