Cooper falls to Aledo 34-31 in thriller

The Cooper Cougars gave the Aledo Bearcats all they could handle but finally fell 34-31 to the defending champs.
With the score 34-31 in the 4th quarter, the Cooper defense stopped Aledo with 2:00 to go in the game, and the Cooper offense went to work.
Ender Freeman completed a pass to Daelin Campos to pick a 4th and 14 to keep the drive alive.
A few plays later, Freeman's pass was picked off at the Cooper 21 yard line by the Bearcats to seal the deal.
The teams went back and forth all night long.
Aledo took the lead in the first quarter on a Jase McClellan run in the first quarter.
Cooper answered with a pair of touchdown passes in the 2nd quarter. Freeman found Campos from 21-yards out to tie it, and a swing pass to Tyrees Whitfield went 55 yards.
Cooper led the game 17-14 at the break. The first time Aledo trailed at halftime in the last 28 games.
The state champs came out strong in the 3rd quarter to seemingly take control. Jake Bishop and McClellan with big runs to give Aledo a 27-17 lead.
Back comes Cooper, again. A shovel pass to Whitfield in the third goes for 83 yards and the Cougars are back within three points.
McClellan scored again to make it 34-24 in the 4th quarter.
Cooper wouldn't go away. Whitfield scored his third touchdown of the game to cut the lead to 34-31.
Freeman finished the game with 405 yards passing and three touchdown passes. He also set the record for most passing yards in a season.
Whitfield ends the season with a school record 40 touchdowns on the season.
Receiver Myller Royals ends the season with every season and career receiving record in Cooper history.
The Cougars season ends with a 9-4 record.
