    Cowgirls Advance To Elite Eight

GENEVA, N.Y. – Hardin-Simmons’ women’s soccer team advance to the Sectional Final with a 1-0 win over No. 8 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon at William Smith College in Geneva, New York.
After a review of the film, Morgan McAdams was credited with the goal as she bent in the corner kick in the 77th minute for the only score of the game.
“Survive and advance,” said HSU head coach Marcus Wood. “That is what it is all about at this point in the season. We played a smart game and most of their shots were from distance. Once again we came up big on a corner and I am so happy for our team, after being tripped up in this round each of the last two years.”
The Cowgirls’ defense held CMU off the board. CMU had a 17-6 advantage in shots in the game, but just a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Caitlin Christiansen had four saves in goal for the Cowgirls and Carolyn Botz had three saves for Carnegie Mellon.
The Cowgirls will play Ohio Northern for the right to go to the Final Four at 12 p.m. (CST) on Sunday. Ohio Northern advanced with a 1-0 overtime win over William Smith.
