Experienced Pipers Are Ready To Go

The Hamlin Pied Pipers are one of several Big Country teams that are expecting to play at least eleven games this season.

The Pipers are one of the most experienced teams coming into the 2016 season in the Big Country with fifteen returners in the starting line up from last year's area finalist team.

That's a big deal for any school, but at Hamlin, the players say it carries a special meaning to be a returning senior, and head coach Russell Lucas says there's nothing like having players who have seen some action.

Russell Lucas said, "The experience that they bring is just huge, so we're excited about the leadership on our team this year."

Alex Turner said, "We've got a saying around Hamlin, we're only as good as our seniors allow us to be, and that's just what we're out here doing, leading. We've got eleven seniors that have played in Hamlin since we were all in seventh grade, and we've just got a good bond together."

Lucas said, "When you play together that long for that length of time, they just kind of understand how each other plays. We're excited about having that many seniors on our team."

Devin Perez said, "I have a feeling we're going to show out and prove them wrong that we're not ranked third."

On the defensive side of the ball, lineback Colby Stevenson and safety Dustin Kiser combined for 226 tackles in 2015. More of that is expected this year.

They start the season on August 25 at Shotwell Stadium against Anson in the opening game of the Champions Classic.
