Songs that have gotten to you

Everyone's had one that touched them in some way, good or bad. What got in in there for you and why?

For me its got to be Uncle Lucius - Keep the wolves away. Any song about a father working in the refinery/oil patch getting seriously hurt and possibly leaving behind kids and a wife worries me now that that's what I'm doing. I started working in the oil field and have a baby coming. This song recently started screwing with my head when it comes on.

    Great topic.

Brad Paisley- He didn't have to be. It reminds me of my step dad. He is my dad and raised me.

Cats in the cradle, Cat Stevens. No need for a link, we all know the song.

          Springsteen's "My Hometown":

A prophetic tale of the decline and decimation of the American Middle Class. Jobs lost, etc

It starts with describing decline and framing it as "my hometown".....

Then pivots to empty stores and the local factory closing and how "these jobs are going boys and ain't coming back" as he switches to:

          Your Hometown

          Powerful stuff

I hear that song every time my kids say " Hey Dad, let's play catch" or , pass, kick or whatever.

Cats In The Cradle is by Harry Chapin.

I can't go 10 seconds into that song without tearing up.

Love this subject but can't think of any earth shattering tunes.
If it's about love then it's gotta be Roberta Flack singing 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'.

Some songs bring back memories of my youth. Being the youngest of six, it was a rough somewhat abusive environment, never fitting in.

                        Seasons in the Sun
                        Billy Don't Be a Hero
                        Rocky (not from the movie)
                        Alone Again Naturally

                        I know, depressing!

Almost all music has a emotional effect on me, Some irritates the dog out of me. But a tune that really pulls on me to a point I can't get through it without a lump in my throat is our National Anthem.

I love hearing 'God Save the Queen' being sung before a soccer contest by a bunch of drunk Liverpudlians. It's stirring.

Depends on the person or subject...there are so many songs I relate to that it would be impossible to single one out....I'll hear Cats in the Cradle and I'll get kinda melancholy then I'll hear a song about a good dad and I'll get kinda, "Heck yes I'm a good dad"..........I'll hear a song about a bad woman and think of an Ex, then hear one that speaks to my lovely wife and I don't hate women anymore, since the last song played that brought me down.....kinda like old people....just Depends....HAHA!!
