    Prayers for Scurry Rosser Coach-

Friday night's game between Scurry-Rosser High School and Malakoff ended with about six minutes left after Scurry-Rosser assistant coach Mark Bachtel was struck on the sidelines and airlifted to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, according to inForney.com.

He is showing some signs of improvement.

Scurry-Rosser High School assistant coach Mark Bachtel remains in critical condition with head injuries suffered in a Friday night sideline collision. But his sons said Tuesday there had been signs of improvement in the last 36-48 hours.

“Due to his humble nature, he would not desire all the attention he’s getting,” son Jason Bachtel said at a press conference at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.
The family members assessed no blame for the incident and were proud it had become a source of faith in the larger community.
“A normal, routine football play,” said Jason, Scurry-Rosser’s head football coach, athletic director and, therefore, 64-year-old Mark Bachtel’s boss. “Unfortunately, he was not able to get out of the way of a sideline play, and we are where we are.”
Jason said he has talked daily to the 16- and 17-year-olds who were involved in the play, both at his school and visiting Malakoff .
“Both were very shaken up the night of the accident,” he said. “Now they understand it was just an accident.”
Three weeks ago, the family dealt with the death of Mark’s brother Kent Bachtel, a 23-year head coach at Waco Midway High School.
“The Bachtels are coaches,” said Jason, flanked by his brothers Kevin, a current coach, and Brandon, a coach-turned-minister. “But we’re not so much coaches as much as we are educators.”
Tributes to Mark “Papa” Bachtel can be found on both the school district’s Twitter site and the family’s Facebook page. Students at Scurry-Rosser and at rival Crandall have worn Scurry-Rosser’s green. There are also tributes from Wills Point, where Mark was head coach from 1999-2007.
Between Wills Point and a 2011 call from his son, Mark Bachtel was defensive coordinator at Sachse High School.
Jason described the team and the students Mark Bachtel teaches as resilient. Scurry-Rosser has a bye in its football schedule this week.
“Our kids obviously know that Papa Bachtel is not here with us right now,” Jason said. “If he were here, he would be on their tails, telling them there’s still a long way to go.”
