Mission, Lincoln to meet for S.F. title

Mission, Lincoln to meet for S.F. title

Mission’s football team wasn’t caught off guard this week.

The two-time defending San Francisco Section champion jumped on Galileo early Thursday at Kezar Stadium and rolled to a 49-25 semifinal playoff win.

Niamey Harris accounted for four touchdowns, Joe Broussard rushed for 150 yards and two scores and Cheeko Wells added two interceptions and eight tackles as the Bears (8-4) moved into the Turkey Day Game at Kezar against Lincoln.

Mission recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and drove 35 yards to take a 7-0 lead on a 5-yard run by Tyrese Johnson, propelling the Bears to a 22-6 halftime lead.

Galileo, which last week lost 42-35 to Mission, could not recover.

“We took it to them on the ground, imposed our will and tried to slow the game down,” first-year Mission head coach Greg Hill said.

Said Galileo head coach Mark Huynh: “We came out nervous.”

The Lions (4-7) got another big game from 5-foot-11, 199-pound freshman Yarvell Smith, who rushed for three touchdowns.

    “He’s the truth,” Hill said.

Junior cornerback Jamal Dixon had a big game for Mission, which has to beat another team for a second time.

The Bears topped Lincoln 19-9 during the regular season.

    Lincoln 41, Balboa 15:

Josiah Calvo-Martinez ran for two touchdowns and quarterback Roel Marania accounted for two more for the host Mustangs (7-5), who scored twice within 20 seconds just before halftime to take command.

A TD run by Calvo-Martinez made it 21-7 and on the ensuing kickoff, Balboa failed to retrieve a kick that looked headed to the end zone.

[...] the ball stopped at the 1, Lincoln’s Randy Wong recovered and Marania scored two plays later.

“That was a huge swing,” Lincoln head coach Phil Ferrigno said.

“We won the turnover battle,” Ferrigno said.

Timoteo Potasi and Desean Crawford also scored on touchdown runs for Lincoln.

“We’ll do our best to knock off the champs,” Ferrigno said.

    Balboa finished 4-7.
