Pac-12 football teams make good use of Bay Area players

According to current depth charts, at least 20 Metro Area players will start this weekend for Pac-12 Conference football teams.

[...] those two teams are represented by the most local starters: five at UCLA and four at Washington.

The Bruins feature two seniors from Kennedy-Richmond, wide receiver Kenneth Walker and defensive lineman Takkarist McKinley.

Washington, ranked fifth by the Associated Press, has three local defensive starters, linemen Elijah Qualls (Casa Grande-Petaluma), a junior, and sophomore Vita Vea (Milpitas), and senior cornerback Kevin King (Bishop O’Dowd-Oakland).

Arizona State (4-1, 1-1), which hosts UCLA on Saturday, has two key local starters, sophomore quarterback Manny Wilkins (San Marin-Novato), and junior linebacker DJ Calhoun (El Cerrito), the team’s second-leading tackler (30).

GettSeeing more playing time is sophomore receiver and Calhoun’s high school teammate Jalen Harvey who has 12 catches for 189 yards.

The only local player on Stanford’s depth chart is backup quarterback Keller Chryst (Palo Alto).

The other Bay Area prep alums starting in the Pac-12 are junior cornerback Marcellus Pippins (Washington State, El Cerrito), senior linebacker Michael Hutchings (USC, De La Salle-Concord), freshman tackle Brady Aiello (Oregon, Acalanes-Lafayette), senior linebacker Kenneth Olugbode (Colorado, Bellarmine), junior kicker Chris Graham (Colorado, Burlingame) and senior guard Freddie Tagaloa (Arizona, Salesian-Richmond).
