    San Antonio Spurs mark new major partnership with Austin-based Self Financial

    The Spurs announced a new partnership with an Austin-based credit building company. The partnership means Self will be the new jersey patch for the Spurs. 

     

    Starting with the 2022-2023 Spurs season, the San Antonio team’s uniforms will feature the Self branding. The partnership includes a partnership with Josh Primo, who was the first to model the new patch. The patch replaces the Frost logo from the Spurs jersey.

    Spurs Sports and Entertainment announced the news during a press conference on Tuesday, June 21. The patch will be on San Antonio and Austin Spurs jerseys, practice, and Summer League jerseys. 

    "You're going to see a lot of Self across all our platforms," Chief Executive Officer RC Buford said during the media event. 

    Buford says a partnership with a company like Self will help the Spurs make an "impact" across the community. 

    "As Self grows, it gives us an opportunity to grow with them," Buford added. 

    He said a naming rights partner for the AT&T Center has not been decided. 

    Self Financial is an Austin-based credit-building platform. CEO James Garvey founded the company in 2015 after an automatic payments flub on his credit card. By the time he noticed the mistake, his credit score had “tanked,” according to the website.

    Garvey said the Spurs values around "integrity" attracted Self to the Spurs.
