    Hardin-Simmons Rolls By SAGU 61-24

    WAXAHACHIE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' football team rolled up 714 yards of total offense in a 61-24 rout of Southwest Assemblies of God on Saturday evening at Lumpkins Fields in Waxahachie.



    The Cowboys pitched a 34-0 shutout in the second half after leading 27-24 at halftime.



    J.P. Lowery had a 3-yard run for SAGU to cap a quick 83-yard five-play drive with 8:37 to play in the first quarter. HSU came right back with a 2-yard touchdown run by Ryan Breton with 3:56 to play in the first quarter.



    Alex Bell scored on a 5-yard pass from Breton and Chadd Dearen and Tyler Smith traded field goals and HSU led 17-10 with 6:54 to play in the first half.



    The teams then traded three touchdowns and a field goal in the final 3:37 of the half. Marco Matthews scored for SAGU from seven yards out. Reese Childress scored on a 6-yard run and Jeremy Carr scored on a 48-yard pass from Lincoln Kenitzer.



    Smith then gave the Cowboys the lead with a 24-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.



    HSU came out strong and went 75 yards in nine plays with Breton capping the drive with a 3-yard TD run. Shawn Williams scored from eight yards out on the next series for HSU. Reggie Davis then had a interception that he returned 80 yards for a score on the final play of the third quarter to make it 48-24.



    Williams and Tim Ismail added touchdown runs in the fourth quarter of three and 19 yards respectively and the Cowboys moved to 2-0 on the year. SAGU fell to 1-2 on the season.



    Breton led the Cowboys going 26-for-38 for a career-best 416 yards and one touchdown. He also ran four times for 29 yards and two scores.



    Jaquan Hemphill had seven catches for 121 yards and ran for 43 more and Reese Childress had eight catches for 189 yards. Josh White led the defense with 12 tackles.



    HSU will host Texas Lutheran in the home opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shelton Stadium.
