    Cowgirls Swept by UT-Dallas

    ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader to Texas Dallas falling 4-3 and 7-3 in American Southwest Conference action at Ellis Field on Saturday.



    Game 1

    The Cowgirls dropped the first game in heartbreaking fashion. HSU led 3-2 heading to the seventh and the Comets came up with a couple of runs. HSU loaded the bases and Kara LeLeux hit a soft liner to shallow center. UTD shortstop Heather Gilbert tracked down the ball and then threw a strike to gun down Mak Lunsford at the plate to end the game.



    UTD scored two runs in the first one on a wild pitch and the other on a Taylor Ervin RBI double. HSU took the lead in the second with three runs. Lunsford had a two run doubles and Braleight Middleton added an RBI single.



    The game stayed 3-2 until the Comets scored two runs on a double by pinch-hitter Brittany Perkins.



    Lauren McLeod went the distance for the Comets and scattered nine hits and allowed three runs while striking out five. She is now 4-2 on the year. Lara Ammermann pitched well for the Cowgirls and allowed eight hits and just three earned runs to fall to 1-2.



    Sydnie Daden, Middleton and Lunsford had two hits each for the Cowgirls. Melissa Livermore and Ervin had two hits for UTD.



    Game 2

    The Comets struck for four runs in the second inning of game two to chase starter Tori Rodriguez. She lasted just one and one-third innings allowing four hits and two walks to fall to 2-3 on the year. Genia Jones allowed 10 hits and three runs in five and two-third innings for the Cowgirls.



    Lauren Williams put the Cowgirls on the board with an RBI single in the fourth to make it 5-1. UTD scored again in the fifth on Sarah Morales' second home run of the game.



    Sydnie Darden singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. HSU scored a run in the seventh on a KeAmbria Hunter bunt.



    Sara Davison earned the win with seven innings of six-hit three run ball to improve to 2-2.



    Sara Navarro had three hits to pace the Comets and Middleton had two hits for the Cowgirls.



    The Cowgirls have lost six straight and are now 4-6 overall and 0-6 in league play. UTD improved to 7-4 on the year and 6-0 in ASC action. HSU plays at Concordia in ASC play next weekend.
